Milan and the canceled flight

Milan and the canceled flight

The week we spent in Milan during July was definitely one of my favorites, even though it didn’t start out quite as planned, but here is a bit more detail on everything….

Sunday – the cancelled flight

Summer afternoon, cold raindrops were falling from the sky, clearing the air and clashing onto the hard glass of the living room windows. Last minute packing, as always.

A few hours later, we were at the airport, waiting to board, when we were informed that our flight was canceled. Oh, and the next flight out to Milan was in 2 days. And my course started the next morning.

After many phone calls and almost an hour of staying in line, we managed to get a seat for the next flight from across the country, Monday at noon. Road trip! A bus ended up picking everyone up after about 3 more hours and we arrived to the airport the next day, right on time to check in.

Monday – arriving in Milan, the Dome.

By the time I got on the plane I was completely exhausted – I haven’t slept in well over 24 hours and was stressing about the day that I missed.

We got to the apartment (after dragging our suitcases across the cobblestone sidewalk for 3 km – the people at the metro told us it was close and we made the huge mistake of not checking before) and finally took a shower and changed into something nice to go outside and explore. We were lucky to have found an apartment with a great location – in walking distance from the fashion district & touristic area and decided to go see The Dome.

The cathedral was just as beautiful as everyone described it, and we managed to see it at golden hour, which I think is the best time, as it highlights the beautiful architectural details.

Oh and here’s me carrying my heavy camera everywhere, but still taking pictures with my phone, just so I can have more to go through and delete later ( it was also the only picture I have of my outfit that day and I really liked it 🙂

Tuesday & Wednesday – my first days at the fashion course & exploring the city

The next mornings were my first days at the course and afternoons wondering around the streets and shops of Milan. On Tuesday we took the metro to discover more of the city and on Wednesday we walked the fashion district and also found this copy of Audrey Hepburn’s letter to Tiffany from back in September 1987, framed and hung on a wall of a Tiffany & Co. store – spotting it definitely a highlight of my day.

Thursday – Marchesi, a cute little Vogue kiosk & Armani Silos

After my course was done for the day we got tickets & visited the inside of the Dome, which was absolutely breathtaking, then stopped by the Marchesi cafe in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II to have a cappuccino with a view – talking and enjoying the moment while watching everyone as they try to find their way around during rush hour.

On our way home we found this adorable Vogue kiosk that, ironically enough, was out out Vogue Italy magazines (I managed to get one later in the week) and took a few pictures while stumbling home as we watched the sun set over the Italian fashion capital.

We later went out again and managed to get the last tour of the Armani Silos museum.

Friday – last day in Milan, leaving for Florence

Friday was the last day in Milan and even though it had only been a week I managed to get attached to the city already. After I finished my course, we left for the train station and headed to Florence.

In the end I am so grateful to say that Milan turned out to be just the gorgeous city I imagined and the trip was one of my favorites. I’m curious to what are your recommendations for the city and if you visited it or planning on doing so any time soon, tell me in the comments or let me know via Instagram.

Until next time….

?kisses,
